I am Tauz TamuPovi, a Queer, Black and Indigenous person living in rural Northern New Mexico with my teenage daughter. We reside next to the Rio Grande with the beautiful Black Mesa always watching over us in our homelands of San Ildefonso Pueblo, New Mexico. I am happiest and most relaxed when I am in nature. It keeps me grounded, clears my head and recharges me. I love the sounds of the natural world. It feels like home, a place away from the noise and fullness of the too busy human world. Finding ways to recharge, slow down, and rest have become so essential in my work.
I was raised by beautiful women: Grandmothers, Auntie’s and my Mother, Rose Marie TsigiwanuTun, who was a healer by lineage and a Registered Nurse by trade. I began to learn about medicine, energy healing and essential oils from her. I would watch my mother bring relief to people through reiki sessions. When something was happening in my body, my mother would first turn to essential oils. I learned to work with a pendulum and trust the messages of my dreams and visions from my mother. She supported and believed in the traditional ways of our Tewa heritage and she incorporated the beliefs and ways of our Trinidadian roots. It is through my Mother that I learned to call upon our Ancestors and Beloveds for continual teachings from all my lineages.
It has been my desire to serve the communities I am part of: BIPOC and Two Spirit/LGBTQI+ communities. My work in the world is to offer up the gifts and tools that are rooted in love and tradition, to assist both the birthing communities and their families in remembering birth as a sacred ceremony, and to facilitate a space where people can dive deeply and unravel the stories of trauma to bring healing to their lives.

Training & Education
- Graduated from Northern New Mexico College in Massage Therapy and earned an AA in Integrative Health Studies.
- BA graduate at UNM in the fields of Psychology and Sociology
- Studied with the Institute For the Study of Birth, Breath and Death.
- Received my Birth Attendant Certification through the International Center for Traditional Childbirth.
- Licensed and certified Perinatal Community Health Worker, and a Certified Lactation Counselor for the state of New Mexico.
- Studied with Freedom Lodge, earning certification as a Trauma Recovery Specialist after completing the Historical Trauma Master’s Class.
- Facilitator of Traditional Healing and Sacred Space Holder.
I attend home and hospital births. I have accompanied people through abortions, holding space for the grief, loss, and the complexity of this procedure. It is important to incorporate what teachings I have learned from my family lineage, as well as teachings that have been shown to me through ceremony and prayer. Although I was not raised in the ancestral traditions of my Trinidadian and African lineage, I have inherited them and am working to incorporate them in my work.

SOMATIC ARCHAEOLOGY SESSIONS
Working with Tauz has been amazing. Tauz’s skills and warmth led me to go very deep and transform inter generational trauma so quickly! Thank you Tauz. – NOMI GREENE
Tauz’s work is so gentle and profound. Working with Tauz, I was able to release pain in my body from my past and from generations before me. It continues to help me feel freer in my body and in my self esteem. – PATTY SHURE

BIRTH ATTENDANT/DOULA WORK
My labor was almost three days long. Without Tauz, I really don’t think I would have made it with much grace at all. Tauz is the most steady, attuned, and grounded Doula I could have ever asked for. Their wisdom of what the body and space might be needing is, in my opinion, her greatest gift. Oh, and their hands are magic!! – CORI WRIGHT, MS, LMHC, SEP
I feel so lucky to have had Tauz as my doula. They helped prepare us emotionally and spiritually for the birth of my baby in a way that nothing else did. Tauz surrounded my whole family with a deep solid gentle presence and belief in our strength during a trying labor and postpartum time. Whenever Tauz entered our space I felt a sense of calm wash over me, knowing I was in the best hands. – HOPE LOGGHE
Tauz was our doula for both of my daughters births, they helped not just myself, but my partner and immediate family that was present to be involved in my births. Tauz helped me to relax, cope with labor and also reminded me to breathe, eat and drink water. I’m thankful for the encouragement and reassurance Tauz provided when caring for me during my labors. – SANDY MARTINEZ

HOLDING SACRED SPACE
Tauz’s ability to skillfully and lovingly hold sacred space allows our group to relax into the hard work of healing, building and learning. Tauz holds us tenderly, inviting our Ancestors along with the elements of water, earth, fire and air. This allows us to connect with ourselves and each other to do the type of deep and transformative work that would not otherwise be possible. A game changer for our movement building, Tauz’s contribution is invaluable and we hold so much gratitude for the gifts Tauz holds – JESSICA ARANDA
